We all know that the anticipation can sometimes be as exciting as the event itself. For me that is all too real as Julie, I, and several D&H clients get ready to head out for Belize. There is something amazingly therapeutic about packing up fly fishing gear in anticipation of a week on the water.
As I sit here at my kitchen table, I find myself surrounded by a small pile of items that I need to pack…bonefish leaders, tippet, a dozen or so flies representing tasty morsels for our target species (permit, tarpon, bonefish), polarized glasses, extra reels, sunscreen, and the list goes on. In fact, I find myself checking off the items on my official packing list but I am not sure why…it isn’t the first rodeo for these fish and it isn’t our first time to Belize…perhaps I just like to see that list and know that checking off items means it is just about “go time!”
God willing, tomorrow at this very hour, I will be leaning into the sun, searching for the tails that reach out from the water. Leaving for a trip, whether it is a local hot spot or a tropical destination is always a time of great anticipation and perhaps some nervous energy. I hope you get to experience that feeling really soon. There is frankly very little in life that can compare to it.
Enjoy life….Brian Barnard
