Mexico Flats Fishing Louis and I just got back from a fly fishing trip in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. We spent a day fishing the flats for the illusive Bonefish and we landed a good number each. It was a pristine day to fish the seemingly endless flats of the Caribbean Sea. Later in the week we chucked some […]
Gear Bags, Vests and Backpacks Fishermen come in all the time to ask me to set them up with the perfect fishing organization system. Over the years, I have tried several systems and continue to use multiple systems depending on the fishing situation and location. I still use a vest occasionally (and like it) but […]
East Fork Tailwater Smallmouth The Smallmouth fishing is warming up on our local creeks. I spent Sunday fishing with friends on the East Fork Tailwater. We worked pretty hard for the fish we caught. The best of the day was this 16 inch fish that took one of my original flies. We caught many […]
I just returned from several days fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with my co-worker F.J. Crane and his brother Sean. I am working the shop floor this weekend and the reports are coming in that guys are getting smallies to hit flies on local streams. One angler was just in saying the bass were slamming his streamers. He was buying rubber-legged bead head buggers in brown. He was also throwing crayfish patterns.
Felt soled wading boots give great traction on algea covered rocks. Pretty much everyone can agree on that. The big talk in fly circles is about what are the best alternatives to felt where states have outlawed the wearing of felt in their streams for fear of spreading diseases thru invasive species. (I think the […]

This is one of my favorite pieces of luggage from Filson. It makes for a great weekend bag. The pullman design allows you to zip open the case and have both sides lay flat for you to access your clothing. The straps keeps everything where it belongs as you travel. My favorite feature is the heavy leather handle.
